Abstract Wall Art

This nice piece of abstract wall art was created by a talented 3 year old using only a purple crayon! I'm not really in to the whole art scene but let me give you my interpretation of this abstract master piece. I think it represents the anguish and turmoil a 3 year old bottom feels after her artwork is discovered by her daddy.
I will be sure to post her next masterpiece. After all, she is my daughter and I never learned my lesson the first time so I think it would be unfair to expect anything more from her. I guess all I can do is hope she takes after her mommy more than me. Like my mom always told me "Do as I say, not as I do!"

Playground Extravaganza!

This is a picture of Jaden and Jules new playground! We bought this last December and got a great deal because it was purchased out of season. I love a great deal!

I thought this was a great deal until I opened the two boxes it was stuffed into. There was probably about 75 boards of all different sizes and shapes and about 500 different bolts, screws, washers, t-nuts, and lock washers. I followed the directions, believe it or not, like I had a choice, and Erica and I counted ALL of the hardware and layed out all the boards to make sure we had a complete kit. We had a complete kit so we continued on with what was sure to be one of the great tests of our marriage. Combine a man, his lovely bride and any kind of a construction project and the out come will be questionable at best.

We started at 1:00 PM this last Saturday and called it a night about 7:00 pm. Six "quality time" hours logged so far! We picked up where we left off Sunday at 1:00 pm after going to church and finished the playground from hell at 8:30pm Sunday evening. We logged a total of 13.50 hours of "quality time" working on this project last weekend. We didn't have one "disagreement" the entire time! That has to be a record in the Hendren household! Jaden loves her new playground and I am sure Jules will when she gets a little older.

Dandelion Haiku

For those of you that don't already know..... I love turf grass! I love growing it, mowing it, fertilizing it, I take a great deal of pride in my ability to grow fine turf grass. I especially enjoy caring for my yard. I strive to have the best yard not only on by block....but in the entire neighborhood! If you ask me I have accomplished this goal and am always looking for new ways to make my yard stick out above the rest. I will address this topic on another post.

Now on to the title of the blog...."Dandelion Haiku". When I was driving home from work today I noticed 1 lone dandelion in my yard right next to the curb. It was right a t the edge of the grass and the concrete. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE!!!!! The rest of my yard is 100% weed-free due to the height I mow and the thickness of the turf. The best way to insure a weed-free, cool season lawn, is to have a VERY thick stand of grass and set the mowing height of your mower VERY high....check and check. I am getting off subject, sorry. Back to the dandelion....I took care of the nasty, lone dandelion and figured I would honor it with a haiku!

Dandelion Haiku

Oh Dandelion
24-d will burn you down
Weed free from now on

Mad ups!!!

I made this sign right before Jaden was born. It was just my way of welcoming her home and letting her know my expectations from the beginning. I didn't want her to be 10 and wonder why 50 made jump shots and 50 made free throws were required before she could eat supper. I just wanted all expectations known upfront. Then I got to thinking..........I figured why wait until her 10th birthday? The earlier she starts the better she'll be, right? She hasn't eaten supper in three days. All joking aside....... Jaden's Mema and PaPa bought her her first basketball goal and today was the first chance I have had to put it together and shoot some hoops with her.

Look at that vertical! She can already out jump me and she is only 3! She also has a killer ball fake and could double as Charlie Hustle! I enjoy shooting hoops with her and telling her to keep her right elbow in and to follow through! I just hope I am a better coach than player.

I think I got some awesome action shots. I hope you enjoy. Hopefully she will get a kick out of them when she gets older, especially if she loves basketball like I do. Long live living vicariously through your kids! Stay tuned for coverage of Jaden's first golf lesson.

JULES ROLLS OVER FOR THE 1ST TIME!

Jules is now just a few days over 4 months old and we just saw her roll over several times from her back to her stomach and from her stomach to her back. Her daycare provider told us last week that she rolled over but we didn't believe her. We just kept telling ourselves she was too young. Sure enough she is now a big girl. Before we know it she will be crawling and into everything. Seeing your kids do anything for the first time is pretty awesome.

LAWRENCE RECAP

My trip to Lawrence was awesome! We started the evening off at the Jones palatial estate by sampling some"WAVE THE WHEAT" ALE . It is a good beer very similar to Boulevard Wheat but much better in my opinion. I got to hang with the Jones family for a while and then we were off. 1st stop.....of course was RICK PLACE. We played several games of shuffle board and whipped up on the younger less experienced competition. From Ricks we headed to Johnny's Tavern where we received a free Miller Light and Miller Light Logo pint glass from two girls pimping Miller Light and the new Miller Light "Fresh Taste" glass. From what I can gather all that made the glass a "fresh taste" glass was an etched ML logo in the bottom of the glass....whatever....a free beer is a free beer. After we finished our free beer and were screamed at by a drunk psycho college coed for asking her friend to take a picture of us we headed to another local establishment I can't remember the name of. At the nameless bar we played a game of pool and just chilled. By this time the night was grinding to a halt so we had just one more stop to make........BURRITO KING!!!! That's right, no outing is complete with out hitting BURRITO KING on the way home. I think this picture of Jones waiting in line at BURRITO KING sums up the entire evening. The evening was a blast and I am looking forward to my next evening out in the great city of Lawrence.

LAWRENCE BOUND!!!

This is my first entry on my new blog! I hope there will be hundreds upon hundreds to come. Maybe I am getting ahead of my self. I hope there is at least 5-10 more to come!
I called up Jones this afternoon and asked what he was doing tonight and if he wanted to get a drink. He said absolutely with out even thinking about it. In my book that is the definition of a true friend. Someone who will drop everything and make time to catch up and have a few cocktails. Either that or he was really wanting to get out of the house and I am as good an excuse as any! I am sure it is not the later at least that is what I am telling myself.
Anyways....I am headed to Jones house about 6:00 to enjoy a few beers from his fairly new Keg-o-rater. He tells me he has a new keg from a local brewery, I will fill you all in tomorrow if it was any good. Who am I kidding I haven't found a truly bad beer yet and I doubt tonight will be the first. After hanging at his house for a while we plan on going down town for a while.
I hope to post a few pictures of our night soon.....stay tuned for what I hope will be a great blog.
